The project
Seeds Child Care & Early Learning Centre in St James asked for a yard that could hold several kinds of play at once. Jay’s Playground Solutions laid artificial grass across the main area and set a wet pour rubber bike track through it as a continuous loop, so the children on wheels have their own path and the rest of the yard stays clear.
A timber play fort sits on one side of the loop and a shaded sand pit on the other, which spreads the children across the yard instead of queueing them at one piece of equipment. The rubber track and the turf finish flush with each other, so there is no lip between the two surfaces.
Wet pour rubber is the right surface for wheeled play — seamless, grippy when wet and soft enough to take a fall — while artificial grass keeps the rest of the yard green through a St James summer.
