An all-timber Montessori playspace built around a hardwood water play table, with multi-level cubbies, climbing ramps and a stainless steel slide.
The project
Nurture Montessori Childcare in Victoria Park wanted a playspace built from natural materials, in keeping with the Montessori approach the centre teaches. Jay’s Playground Solutions designed and built an all-timber environment around a single centrepiece: a hardwood water play table with a hand pump, set at child height.
Around it sit multi-level timber cubbies and platforms, engineered climbing walls, ramps and rope elements, and a stainless steel slide embedded into the timber forms. Garden beds and loose-parts areas fill the quieter corners, and soft fall surfacing with recycled woodchip zones runs beneath the climbing elements.
The layout deliberately leaves room to move between activities rather than crowding the equipment together, so children choose where to go and how long to stay — which is the point of a Montessori yard.
